HOME of VA is seeking rising 3Ls, recent law school graduates, or practicing lawyers eligible for external legal fellowship funding to work with our organization.
我们可以共同实现的目标
With the goals of affirmatively furthering fair housing and redressing the impact of segregation and systemic discriminatory housing practices, HOME’s enforcement, litigation and policy advocacy address barriers to housing and ensure housing equity leading to equitable access to health, education, and opportunity. Building upon HOME of VA’s long history at the vanguard of fair housing litigation and legal advocacy, this position will work with HOME’s advocacy team to investigate housing discrimination and pursue enforcement of fair housing rights and will also collaborate with HOME’s housing counseling and education department and with outside legal counsel and housing rights organizations to affirmatively further fair housing through legal advocacy.
Your goals will be to identify and pursue legal cases that advance housing equity on a systemic level; to make connections with and strengthen the voices of affected communities as they advocate for themselves to redress discrimination and advance housing rights; and to expand knowledge of tools to fight housing discrimination among the legal community and the public.
In order to apply, no prior fair housing experience is necessary. We are looking for legal fellows with a passion for systemic civil advocacy work, and we will provide fair housing and litigation training to you should you be awarded a fellowship to work with us. Our Deputy Director for Advocacy has in the past sponsored, employed and trained successful fellows through Skadden, Equal Justice Works, individual law school public interest fellowships, and other privately funded fellowships.
How the process works
We will interview applicants to determine if your passion for housing rights, skills, and goals align with our work and mission. If you already have a project in mind, you may pitch it to us, but if you do not we can help you decide on a project.
Whether you have a project in mind or not, if we decide to move forward with you to apply for fellowships, we will work closely with you to design your project and write your application. We will work with you to determine which fellowship programs are available to you and for which your application is most likely to succeed. We will assist you in meeting requirements and deadlines for each application. Most applications will be due in the fall of 2025 but some may be due later on in the winter or spring.
If you are awarded a fellowship, we will bring you on board as a staff member and fellow for the term of the fellowship. Most fellowships will begin the following August or September after your application, so we would anticipate your start date to be sometime in August or September 2026.
Requirements
• Alignment with HOME’s mission and a demonstrated commitment to civil rights and public interest law
• Willingness to work with HOME to design a fellowship application aimed at success that both aligns with HOME’s mission and the fellow’s interests
• Eligibility for one or more public interest law fellowships, public or private
• Membership in the Virginia State Bar, ability to waive in, or willingness and ability to sit for the first available Virginia Bar Exam following your graduation if awarded a fellowship with HOME as a sponsor
申请
Please submit a resume and cover email describing why you want to work with HOME of VA, and any project ideas if you have them. Also let us know of any public interest fellowships for which you may be eligible through your particular law school. Please send your application to jobs@homeofva.org and include Legal Fellowship 2026 in the subject.
Job posting is open until we have selected fellowship candidates, and a rolling review of applications will begin May 31, 2025.
Anticipated hiring salary range: Dependent upon external fellowship award and requirements.
