New executive order gives housing discrimination a leg up
May 16, 2025
This week, Next City — a nonprofit news organization amplifying solutions for equitable cities — published an op-ed we wrote about the Trump administration’s latest attacks on civil rights.
We’re standing up for our neighbors — fighting to repair generations of harm from discriminatory policies. We won’t let White House bluster get in the way.
The problem: Trump’s recent executive order opposing disparate-impact analysis seeks to take away a tool essential for civil rights enforcement.
Our solutions: Keep fighting in the courts, where fair housing laws remain clear and unchanged. Make new laws that affirm fairness. And fund organizations like HOME of VA that shoulder the brunt of the work for housing justice.
As we write: “It’s easy to get lost in the executive order storm — to think that a new regime, governing by fiat, has upended civil rights law. But we can and must fight back. Our neighbors are counting on us.”
Read our op-ed here. And watch this one-minute video to see Moriah Wilkins, our Fair Housing Staff Attorney, break down the crux of the issue.
Then help us spread the word! We’re raising the alarm on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Bluesky.
